Hello—I was under the impression that I’d already written one of these. I’ve published piecemeal food journals from Hong Kong here and there, but last week’s Q&A reminded me that I owe you a full guide. I have a few new-ish favourites and several of you are visiting soon, so our timing has worked out nicely.
I’m not your girl when it comes to trendy new restaurants: like any great food city Hong Kong is full of buzzy openings, but I mostly revert to tried-and-true favourites—it’s hard to deny the familiar embrace of a time-proven table when every trip feels too short. That being said, a few of these recs are new to me, or mainstays recently recently buoyed by social media.
Most of these restaurants are wallet-friendly, which makes it easy to hop around to several in a day, and save money for dinners and drinks—Hong Kong is in no short supply of good bars. They’re a blind spot of mine but you’ll find plenty of recommendations elsewhere, as you will for natural wine + small plates joints and upscale tasting menus.
Oh, and I finally got my act together and tagged posts so you can find all my city guides in one place. Some newsletters have scattered recommendations from other travels, but they pop up in so many of my emails that tagging those would defeat the purpose of the page.
